Subharti's distance MBA and the record that actually proves it

You came looking for an approval label. You need an entitlement record.

Typing a university's name next to the word approved is the right instinct. It is just aimed at the wrong file. AICTE approval is recorded programme by programme, campus by campus and year by year — a named course, at a named address, with an approved intake, for one session. It is a record about specific courses, not a badge a university wears across everything it offers. That is why “is Subharti AICTE approved?” has no honest one-word answer, and why even a clean yes would not settle the thing you are actually worried about.

What you are actually asking is whether this MBA will count. For a two-year MBA delivered in distance or online mode, the record that decides that is the awarding university's UGC entitlement to offer that degree, in that mode, for your intake session. Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), the Meerut-based university in Uttar Pradesh, is the one that awards this MBA. The entitlement is the university's to hold. Checking it is yours to do — and it takes about ten minutes.

SVSU is NAAC A accredited. Accreditation is a quality judgement on the institution; it is a good thing to know and it is not a substitute for the entitlement check, because the two answer different questions. Nothing on this page, and nothing in any brochure, replaces opening the record for the session you intend to join.

What is on offer, stated plainly

How to check SVSU's entitlement for your intake year

This is the part nobody can do on your behalf, because entitlement is session-bound and your session is the only one that matters to you.

1. Fix the exact legal name first. It is Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. Listings and search boxes disagree about the spelling of the founder's name, so search on the distinctive word Subharti and then read the full entry rather than trusting the first partial match.
2. Confirm the university itself. Check that SVSU appears on the UGC's own list of recognised universities before you look at any programme. If the awarding body does not check out, nothing downstream can.
3. Find the distance-education entitlement. The UGC's Distance Education Bureau (DEB) publishes which universities are entitled to offer which programmes in open and distance learning and in online mode. That listing, not an approval letter shown to you, is the reference.
4. Match four fields in that one entry. Level (master's), programme (MBA), mode — ODL and online are listed separately and an entitlement for one is not an entitlement for the other — and the academic session.
5. Do not skip the session. This is the step that goes wrong most often. Entitlement is granted for stated sessions. A screenshot from an earlier year proves what was true then, not what is true for a 2026–27 admission.
6. Save the evidence properly. Capture the page with the URL and the date visible, then set it beside the university's own published admission notice for the same session and check that the programme is described the same way in both.
7. Pay against the published figure. The programme fee is ₹65,000 in total for two years. Every payment you make should map to that figure and should come back to you as a receipt.

Why you cannot verify the degree by verifying the centre

Distance programmes routinely put two organisations in front of a student, and confusing them is the single most common reason people think they have checked something when they have not.

The practical test: if a claim is about your certificate, it has to be verifiable against the university. If a claim is about your classroom — mentoring, materials, response times — ask the centre and ask current students. Mixing the two is how people end up with a folder full of documents that prove nothing about the thing they cared about.

When someone tells you a diploma automatically counts for less

Indian precedent says otherwise, and the precedent is about as authoritative as it gets. Until the IIM Act — passed in 2017 and in force from 2018 — the Indian Institutes of Management were societies on a register, and what they handed out was a PGDM — a diploma at the post-graduate level rather than a degree. Nobody treated an IIM PGDM as second-rate then and nobody does now. Format is not quality.

But precedent is not a licence to blur the line, and this is where we have to be blunt, because it is the part that costs people money. Some rules are written to demand a degree, and they mean it literally. Where a requirement reads a master's degree from a UGC-recognised university — most government recruitment rules, most doctoral admissions, many overseas credential evaluations — the qualification that answers it is the university-awarded MBA, subject to the entitlement check above. An institute diploma does not answer it, however good the teaching behind it. If someone tells you it will, ask them to show you the rule.

Where the requirement is written around capability rather than credential — an internal promotion band, a career change, a promoter who wants you to run the numbers — the question changes shape entirely and the format matters much less than what you can do afterwards. One claim on this programme that you can check without asking anyone

This site has one method: prefer the claim you can open and read over the claim you are asked to believe. It is worth applying that method to the learning centre as well as to the university, because placement pages are where unverifiable statements cluster.

IICT's recorded employer base is Indian corporate and public sector — HDFC, ICICI, Tata, Reliance and the Indian Army. Read that as a description of where some alumni have worked. It is not a forecast, and no honest reading of it tells you anything about your own outcome.

One item nearby is checkable in a filed public document. Take Girish Kousgi, who heads IIFL Home Finance as managing director and chief executive and earlier ran PNB Housing Finance in the same role. Open PNB Housing Finance's annual reports — the statutory filings for the three financial years from 2022–23 through 2024–25 — and his listed qualifications include an executive master's-level diploma in Business Administration earned at IICT. A director's credential set out in a company's own filings is about as verifiable as an education claim gets: you can go and read it yourself, which is the whole point of raising it.

Say the obvious thing about it too. That is exactly one data point about exactly one person, and it is no evidence of what a typical outcome looks like. It tells you nothing about what your two years will produce. It is here as an illustration of the standard to hold every other claim to — if a statement about outcomes cannot be traced to a document you can open, treat it as marketing and move on.
